Howdy!
We are Jeff and Deb Spencer, triathletes and outdoors enthusiasts with an obsession for anything RV. WE LOVE RV SHOWS! (Did I just say that out loud?) We have been rolling around in our RV part time/most time since May of 2013. After looking for an RV for 20 years(no need to be in a hurry), we finally made our first RV purchase. A 2010 Heartland Edge that is 21′ of awesomeness.
We were told one way to retire early was to not have kids or horses…so we had neither. But fear not (Mom), we have a smathering of neices and nephews to take care of us when we are old fawn over with pride.
Though it may look like we are retired we do have jobs that we work remotely from our RV. Our consulting and financial coaching business can be done from anywhere, as long as we have an internet connection.
I am a Chiropractor by education, originally from Illinois. But after 25 years of practice it finally dawned on me that I didn’t have to do the same thing my entire life. I love numbers and I love problem solving financial issues. Jeff and I volunteered in a financial ministry for years. I have been independantly coaching others for over 17 years to live within their means, save for the future and live a debt free life.
Being from Bentonville, AR (by way of California), Jeff is everything Walmart. He was a store manager, supplier to and now consultant for other companies. Jeff is the life of the party and CVO (chief visionary officer) of our household, Ironman, Marathoner and Swimmer.

am (short for Sam-a-lama-ding-dong). He is our rescue Wired Hair Fox Terrier who is the cutest member of the family. He is an athlete and a sack of potatoes, both at the same time. He is our training buddy and lap warmer and only finds enough courage to bark at horses. Strangers…no bark, door bell…no bark, horses…bark. The only way we will be forewarned of a bad guy is if he is wearing a saddle.
We hope you follow us on our journey around this amazing country called the USA. It is a spectacular place filled with interesting people that all have a story of their own.

Update: As of April 2015 we decided to upgrade to a new RV and purchased a 2009 Carriage Domani. You can read all about our heartburn project here. And now that we have competed our labor of love we couldn’t be happier!

Great what you are doing. We are couple from Germany and in the past we also spent 2 long term vacationas (7 and 3 month) in the US with our own german RV (shipped it over) and now we thinking about to buy also a Carriage Domani in latest 3 or 4 years. We also like outdoor and camping and we also had experience here in Germany when we bought last year a folding caravan (32 years old) and we needed to restore this completely from scratch by our own. So your tips regarding inspection are very helpful and we will follow your tips. Iam just interesting of what you additionally paid to restore this carriage and what kind of truck your are driving? We in Germany have no experience with this kind of trailer combination ? Wish you all the best good luck on all your trips and we would be happy to get your answer.

Hi Mike. Thanks for stopping by! We pull our Domani with a 2015 GMC 2500 diesel. We love our Domani now that everything is fixed. We spent an additional $50,000 on repairs and upgrades. This included new tires and axels. The originals were terribly under weighted for this rig. Be sure to have your rig weighed! We also added auto leveling, which you wouldn’t necessity need to do ($4500). I would plan on a new roof ($10,000)…evidently there was a flaw in the original construction of these RV’s. Hi! I found your blog through Month at a Time Travel (Mt. Whitney edition 🙂 ). After a few years of retirement, my husband and I have talked about getting an RV or trailer – we love road trips. I look forward to following your adventures.

Hey Janis. Thanks for stopping by! Looks like you are getting in some travel in your retirement. RVing is a great way to travel and we haven’t regretted our RV lifestyle for a minute.
